Kind Of Okay Comics #030

Hey all! Merry Christmas! I was falling asleep last night and low and behold, who came down my chimney? No, not Santa Claus. Rex Tarkleton. Sort of like Santa, but with more swear words.

Cooking Mouse

Here's Remy from Pixar's "Ratatouille" adding some secret ingredients to a pot of steamy soup. This piece is for Mr. O , the biggest cooking mouse fan I know (yes, I know Remy's a rat, but Mr. O is 2 and cooking mouse for him it is).

Stanley, Out Of Work Automaton

Another piece depicting the aspects of the current political, economic, and social climate, specifically the issue of America's mechanical workforce losing jobs to cheap, unskilled, human labor. If Gramps was still alive, he'd be outraged. He was a toaster oven.

The Further Adventures Of Nancy Reagan, Full Page

Several months ago, I was toying around with the idea of Nancy Reagan as a superhero. Why? I don't know, like half the ideas, good and bad, that come through my head, I tend to run with them. Besides, haven't you wondered what Nancy Reagan's been up to since 1988? This is just one imagined scenario and I'm betting the correct one. I teased you with it last spring and now present the whole page comic for your amusement. Enjoy!

The Abbey Elf Off

If you're in Brooklyn on December 19th, get your elf gear on and head down to the Abbey for their annual Christmas party. Best elf costume wins a $100 dollar bar tab. I'm not sure how much booze an elf can handle, but it's worth a shot. Or several shots, like $100 worth. The Abbey Christmas Party, Saturday December 19th, 8pm. 536 Driggs Ave. (between N. 7th & N. 8th), Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Now enough with the shilling...

DK Redux

I wanted to redo the quickly conceived piece posted before. I dig this version better.

I turned this piece into a t-shirt for Mr. Mr. How? Magic... and iron-on sheets.

Bad Monkey

I think Pauline is way hotter than Princess Toadstool and Mario passed up a good thing. But I guess shacking up with royalty ain't bad either. In any case, Mario digs him some damsel in distress.

I might rework this piece. DK's pose is buggin' me.

Jumpman!

Mario was first referred to as "Jumpman". From the Mario wikipedia page:
The character first appeared in the 1981 arcade game Donkey Kong as a carpenter named "Jumpman", more commonly called "Mr. Video Game" in Japan. During localization of the game for American audiences, Nintendo's warehouse landlord Mario Segale confronted Nintendo's Minoru Arakawa, demanding back rent. Following a heated argument in which the Nintendo employees eventually convinced Segale he would be paid, they opted to name the character in the game Mario after him.

Mama Mia! You pay-a the rent! Jumpman went on to be the most well-known character in video game history. My original Mario post still seems to get a lot of hits, so you might be seeing him popping up here and there this month.

Thanks-dank-diddly-giving-a-rino!

Hey all! Did up a poster for good ol' Mark at the Abbey, where he's hosting the annual Abbey Simpsons Thanksgivathon, Sunday November 29th. Each year I pick out around 20 good Simpson episodes for a marathon watching at the bar. It's usually a crowd pleaser.

Since I was making the poster, I felt bad because I've owed my cousin, Anne, a Simpsons-esque portrait of her for like a year now (D'oh!). Since I was already warmed up by drawing some Simpson characters, I figure now was a good time to deliver. She even gave me crap about it via facebook when I was asking people to submit ideas for drawings (which you should all do).

Biff Banter Panel One

Trying to do a short story starring Biff Banter and decided to post the first panel of page one (because that's all I gots). I've been looking at a few Basil Wolverton comics for inspiration and I have to say the man is a genius. I'm trying to capture the feeling he often created in his Powerhouse Pepper comics and even fashioned a font after his handwriting.

That's right! Blitz Randall doesn't have time to think, he's a man of action! Is that sinister-looking man mugging a helpless, old woman or returning his beloved granny's dropped purse? Too late! Knuckle sandwich! Because real men run headfirst into danger and ask questions later! No matter what! Huzzah!
