I promised to do a month of monsters last year, and sadly I never delivered, beyond the sweet looking logo. However, to keep my word and seeing how October is right around the corner, I present Monster Month '09! I'm designing them to look like trading cards, inspired by Topps' various monster cards/stickers from the '60s. So stay tuned for a variety of creepy crawlies and brutal beasties this October.

Well, Rex has finally calmed down about the existence of moon pimps and their nefarious plans to thwart his way of living. However, he brings you another strip that has the essence of alien creatures in it and displays his distaste for reality tv. He gets downright testy when they're on. Like "set things on fire" testy...

Here's a sketch for the piece I'm doing for Mr. O's birthday present. I've been racking my brain trying to come up with A words that aren't too complicated or conceptual. ABC books are harder than I thought. If I keep going at this rate, the O-Man shall get the whole the alphabet illustrated by his 28th birthday. Oh, and Mustache Max is in it, too.

Rex Tarkleton, distinguished hobo and comic stripper extraordinaire, brings you a comic from the dark side of the moon. It can get rough out there. Thanks again, Rex, now get out of the kitchen sink and stop singing sea shanties.

I've been playing around with Max and Percy and not sure if I have got the look down I'm looking for. I've also been working out some storylines in my head and trying to figure out these characters' deals. Mustache Max is an adventurer who owns a Victorian house, complete with a telescope observatory, that is situated on a craggy peak above town. The Mayor of town often calls upon Max to help on this case or that case, which Max, aided by Percival, is always happy to lend a hand. Max flies both a biplane and a dirigible named "The Wondrous Windbag", however on his downtime he enjoys sitting in the parlor sipping lemonade with Percival. He might even have a manservant named Cromwell, but I'm thinking he would not even be necessary. Whatever. I'm figuring this out and would love to actually see Max in a series of children's books, but that comes later. Bully.

I was enjoying a dandy ol' time drawing with Mr. O until his mom came by and got a bit perturbed, taking our crayons away. I was merely expressing my creative expression, however my sister kept saying things like "inappropriate subject matter for a 2 year old" and "Uncle Brendan is displaying irresponsible behavior" and so on and so on. I didn't quite catch it all, to tell you the truth, and my rebuttals of exercising my inalienable first amendment right and the importance of old timey religion in the education of a young man, brimstone and the like, fell on deaf ears. However, it just goes to show that the power of mom trumps all and Uncle B is no longer allowed to participate in coloring time.

Here's the background layout for a piece I'm working on for a friend. It deals with the nefarious machinations of a private school and their dubious plans for a rooftop playground. Don't really want to get into it here, but dig the illo, yo.
