Fakes And Forgeries Class: Guernica 04

Two more stages of my Guernica homage and a final.  If you're in the Newport, RI area, please check out the 21st Fakes & Forgeries Interpretation of Old Masters and New show at Spring Bull Gallery opening on February 4th.  This beaut should be hanging up somewhere.

24-Hour Comic Book 2011: Page 24

The final page!  It took 872,462 hours to complete, but here is my 24 hour comic.  A lot of thanks to Wayne at Annex Comics for hosting the original 24 hour comic day in October and for supporting local artists with Saturday drawing club.

Office Cat 19

Checking out the new chick.

And here's a bonus: last week's Office Cat with gray tones added by good friend Pedro Delgado!  Pedro has been playing around with tonal studies lately and decided to ply his trade to my Office Cat drawing with beautiful results.  Thanks, P-Dids!

Kind Of OK Comics #042

All I got was this comic strip and a slap in the face from Rex Tarkleton.  After reading it, I figured it was best not to question the slap to the face.

My Life As A Teenage Robot Braniac

For this week's The Line It Is Drawn, the broad topic was:

A follower on Twitter suggested combining My Life As A Teenage Robot and Superman's villain, Braniac.  I tend to be Marvel heavy with my fan art and I have been trying to give DC its fair share on these challenges.  I had fun recreating the Silver Age Fortress Of Solitude as well.

See you next week.

Bustown Bruisers Hockey Cards 05

Cards 9 and 10.  I hope to have more for you next week, as this is the last of my cushion.  Plus, I should really deliver a couple more to the O-man soon (Stitch was a request because the little guy had his first stitches a few weeks ago).

Paula Deen To Hock New Diabetic Drug

Paula Deen the Butter Queen, and pharmaceutical company, Victozer, have developed a new, chewable diabetes medication, a welcome change for diabetics everywhere who dread the daily injection.  Deen, spokesperson and a victim of type-2 diabetes herself, wanted a diabetic medicine she could fully support and would reflect her years as a proponent of high-caloric "down home cookin'."  Victozer, after months of research and development, has released the oral medication in three great, new flavors: Bacon & Gristle, White Sausage Gravy, and Deep Fried, Creme-Filled Snackcake.

Do not take on an empty stomach.

Kind Of OK Comics #041

Rex Tarkleton and I were comparing stories about the reasons we've been thrown in the clink.  I didn't have much to say, having never been incarcerated, so I sat back and listened to what sounded like a grocery list: Drunk and disorderly, lewd conduct, indecency, grand theft auto, public brawling, disturbing the peace, etc.  But what really made me pay attention was an incident involving a knife fight with a one-legged nun in El Paso, Texas.  Not only was he arrested and convicted, but excommunicated as well!

Puritan Green Lantern Cucking A Scold

Yeah.  You heard me right.

For this week's The Line It Is Drawn, the broad topic was:

A follower on Twitter suggested Puritan Green Lantern.  I thought it might be fun and did some research on Pilgrim fashion, Plymouth architecture, early modern English language and 17th century font.  Then I ignored that all and I came up with this beauty.

See you next week.

Hostess Files Bankruptcy

Signs that the Hostess company is facing financial difficulty:

Captain Cupcake reduced to selling his "plasma" for money.
Fruit Pie the Magician starts shilling various, dubious products.

Chief Big Wheels bets it all on the ponies in a gambling relapse.

Kind Of OK Comics #040

Forty in the can and Rex is on a roll.  He is a scoundrel and a lout, but he's mine.  Even when he's biting me with his remaining teeth or barking at the neighbors.  Matter of fact, for an elderly cartoonist, he makes  for a pretty bad pet.  Don't get me started at what he does to the living room rug...

The Face Of Boe And MODOK

For this week's The Line It Is Drawn, the broad topic was:

We continue the British theme with team-ups or mash-ups of comic book characters with characters from Dr. Who!

A follower on Twitter suggested the Face of Boe and MODOK.  If you know me, you know I loves the MODOK.  However, I'm not too familiar with Dr. Who.  Thank you, Netflix, for providing me with several seasons of the new series, which I've spent a few days doing some marathon watching.  I decided to try and go for a Kirby look this week, which I think I didn't get right on the Face of Boe.  Oh well, better luck next week.

Fakes And Forgeries Class: Guernica

I received a gift this Christmas which was enrollment in the Fakes and Forgeries class held at the Newport Art Museum.  I chose Picasso's Gurnica and originally wanted to put the GOP candidates in there, but I might do a straight up copy.  If I have time, I might do a second with political overtones.  I'm working on a 16"x40" canvas and finished maybe 1/3 of the under drawing.  Hopefully it will be included in a show at Spring Bull Gallery.  More to come.

Scarred Villains Take A Poke At Potter

For this week's The Line It Is Drawn, the broad topic was:

Team-up or mash-up comic book characters with characters from the Harry Potter books/movies!

A follower on Twitter suggested a piece depicting "Dr. Doom, Jigsaw, Baron Zemo and Deadpool mocking Harry's scar," so there you have it.  Those not in the know, the four characters suggested are horribly disfigured with massive, facial scarring.  See you next week.
