Kind Of Okay Comics #044

Rex Tarkleton trudges in after a long absence to wish you and yours a very merry Christmas.  Also, he wants to know if you could spare a few bucks to help get him loaded.

Merry Fantastic Christmas

From week 170, the theme was:
It’s the Line it is Drawn’s annual Holiday Special! So suggest comic book characters for drawings inspired by Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, what have you!
Twitter follower, Ecovore, suggested: FF’s new costumes but more like candy canes.  Merry Christmas, everybody.

Happy Retirement, Det. John Munch!

From week 162, the theme was:
Because John Trumbull demanded it, it’s Detective Munch Week! Richard Belzer’s Detective Munch retired earlier this week from Law and Order: SVU. His retirement ends an impressive career for a fictional character, as he has the record for appearing in the most television series by a single fictional character, appearing on nine different TV series as Detective Munch over 22 years. Now we’ll celebrate his retirement by extending his crossover streak to comic books, as well! Name a comic book that you’d like to see Detective Munch crossover into!
The ever-lovable BigMike20X6 suggested: Munch & Detective Chimp.  Good pairing if you ask me.

X-Family Circus

From week 161, the theme was:
Comic book characters, comic strip style! Our artists will draw comic book characters in comic strips based on the style of a famous comic strip. So you pick a comic book character and then name the comic strip style you’d like to see the character drawn like. Example: “Spider-Man, Peanuts style”
Follower, via Twitter, dc2omniverse suggested: Scott and Jean, Family Circus style.  Man, I dislike the Family Circus, except the Sunday strips where you get to see Billy run around the neighborhood.

T2: The Peace Offering

Last time, they ruined his Thanksgiving!  This time around, he's ruining their lives!

Moses Turner, everyone's favorite action hero and puritanical mofo is back, with a cornucopia filled with whoopass!  Thanksgiving 2: The Peace Offering explodes into theaters this November.

Happy Thanksgiving, everybody.

Punisher In "Real Fruit Filling..."

From week 160, the theme was:
In honor of Hostess’ return to store shelves everywhere, pick a comic book character and our artists will depict them in a Hostess ad
Twitter follower, TheHeroBiz suggested: Lil’ Kid Punisher.  I had so much fun with the first one, that I had to revisit the concept.

Boogie Beat Down

From week 157, the theme was:
A + X! In honor of the Avengers and X-Men 50th Anniversaries, name a member of the Avengers and a member of the X-Men (not the same person) and our artists will draw them teaming up (our artists will have the freedom of drawing whatever they want beyond the basic concept of “Character X and Character Y team-up”).
Twitter follower, sepinwall, suggested: Wonder Man & Dazzler, busting up goons at the disco, ’70s-style.  I threw the Hypno Hustler in there for good measure.

Character Line-up

Characters from a video at work, not sure I can show animation here, but here's the players involved.  I went for a Bruce Timm-esque look and regret how E-Tail looks so similar to B:TAS's Clayface, but that's always been a great looking design.

Squirrel Rider

From week 155, the theme was:
The theme is “What if…?” You come up with the description for an issue of What If…? (whatever comic book company you’d like) and our artists will come up with what they think the end result of that What If…? would be.
Twitter follower, BigMike20X6 suggested: What if Squirrel Girl became the new Ghost Rider?  Into every Liner's life, a little Squirrel Girl must fall.  Oh, Big Mike, you tenacious, little monkey, you.

Mano, Hand Of Fate

Four pages of Mano, Hand Of Fate which I contributed to the anthology zine Annex Comics #1, available through Annex Comics here in Newport, RI!  The title of the character is a riff on the old horror movie from the '60s, Manos, The Hands Of Fate, which allegedly is one of the worst films ever made.

Announcing Tolerable Tales Of The Adequate #1

I printed up a mini-comic of a comic I had started for a 24-hour comics event a couple years ago for sale at the Annex Psychic Fair and Art Expo. Come on down tomorrow and check us out.

Issue one is 24 pages,  5.5" x 8.5".  One hundred issues were printed.  Stay tuned for the next one.

OSDOK

From week 154, the theme was:
With the recent announcement that Ben Affleck will be playing Batman in the next Batman movie, this week’s theme will be really odd superhero movie casting. Suggest an odd actor or celebrity for a role in a superhero film as either a superhero or a supervillain. Cher as Batman, Zach Galifianakis as the Joker, that sort of thing.
Twitter follower, anaustincampion suggested: @pattonoswalt as MODOK per the suggestion of @ThisAmerLife.  Love them both so it was a simple decision.

Wolverine And Alpha Flight: "Oh... Canada!"

From week 159, the theme was:
In honor of the debut of its SEVENTEENTH (!) season, mash-up comic book characters with South Park characters (a theme I have no idea how we have never managed to do over the years)
Twitter follower, hundbot suggested: Alpha Flight and Wolverine drawn like the Canadians on @SouthPark.  Many thanks to my friends Phillip Andrews, John Holt, Julien Koetsch, and Keith Vincent for lending their talents in such a short period of time.  Beer is on me.

Sam The "Captain American" Eagle

From week 152, the theme was:
Team-ups or mash-ups of comic book characters and Muppets!
Twitter follower, notwedge suggested: Sam Eagle and Captain America.  I have quite a few favorite Muppets, but Sam the Eagle, the network sensor and liaison to the Muppet Show, was always fun, especially with his American bravado, disdain for what he deemed unmoral skits, and overall conservative grumpiness.  The hard part here was trying to catch his voice and manner of speaking while poking fun at the content of The Line It Is Drawn.

Punisher In "Die For Pie..."

From week 156, the theme was:
With the news that J.H. Williams III and W. Haden Blackman are leaving Batwoman, we thought it would be interesting to have you come up with all-time dream runs that would never happen on various superhero titles and our artists will try to make it come to life as best that they can. Ernest Hemingway/Steve Ditko on Superman? Bill Watterson on X-Force? James Joyce/Pablo Picasso on Spider-Man? Feel free to get weird!
Twitter follower, hundbot suggested: A random 5 year old writing and drawing The Punisher.  Posting this one earlier in the queue as well as it's been making the rounds.  Had a lot of fun creating this one.

Twinkie Me, Bitch!

From week 158, the theme was:
In honor of the final episode, which will be airing next week, this week mash-up comic book characters with characters from Breaking Bad!
Twitter follower, BigMike20X6 suggested: Walter & Jesse in a spoof of Hostess Pie ads.  This piece has been spreading around the internet, so I bump it up in the posting queue.  Thanks to all who appreciate and have been sharing my work!  Big thanks to Brian Cronin and Mike Shirley!

Check out the other great pieces from the talented Liners here.

And I'll be watching the final episode for sure on Sunday!  With some twinkies!

Miller Metal Logo

Here's an example from a few logos I've done.  This one I did a few years ago for Miller Metals, a local fabricator here in RI and owned and operated by a good friend of mine.  He likes lions.

Bob Dylan And The Teen Titans

From week 151, the theme was:
Ostensibly because of the 10th anniversary of the Teen Titans cartoon and of Geoff Johns’ Teen Titans #1, but really just because Bill Walko wants the theme to be this, the theme this week is the Teen Titans! Mash-up any era of Teen Titans with ANYthing – a movie (Teen Titans in the Hangover), another comic book (the Teen Titans as the cast of Saga), a TV show (the Teen Titans as the cast from Saved by the Bell), a novel (Teen Titans in Pride and Prejudice), a video game (Teen Titans in Mortal Kombat), whatever you’d like! Go nuts!
Twitter follower, BigMike20X6 suggested: Bob Dylan & the Titans in the 60s.  Jealousy, lust, drug use, and music appreciation, folks.
