Placemat Drawings For Imogen

Uncle B seems to frequent Newport Creamery with a variety of wee ones.  Here's a stand-off between a bunny and a mutant carrot, as well as a goofy strawberry.  These were drawn during lunch with my goddaughter Imogen.  She was very inquisitive as to what I was drawing as I was drawing it.

Placemat Drawings With Oliver

Lunch at the Newport Creamery with Oliver:

Uncle B: "What should I draw on my placemat, Oliver?"
Oliver: "A shark eating people."
Uncle B: "We already did that one, Oliver.  Think of something else."
Oliver: "How about a little baby... and he's eating people."
Uncle B: "How about we stay away from drawings of people getting eaten?"
Oliver: "Oh, how about a guy saying to a girl: 'I love you.  I love you, girl?'"
Uncle B: "That's quite a leap from eating people, but ok."

We had just seen the Muppets, so the style is influenced by that.  A robot at the beach was also discussed, seen below, as well as a pic of an up-and-coming art sensation posing with his current masterpiece "Bad Guy In Blue" (blue crayon on placemat, 2011).

A Shark Eatin' People

Sunday afternoon at my sister's house:
Uncle B: "Hey, Oliver.  What should I draw?"
Oliver: "I don't want to hang out with you."
Uncle B: "You don't want to hang out with me?  Okay.  Anyway, what should I draw?"
Oliver: "A shark looking at some people and he's eating people."
Uncle B: "A shark... eating people?  That's a little... dark."
Oliver: "Yeah.  The shark just has to get out of there and he has to eat through people."
Uncle B: "Okay.  A shark eating people."
Oliver: "Yeah.  A shark eating people."
Oliver leaves the room to watch Open Season 3.  A half hour or so passes, Uncle Q and  Sam The Girl arrive.  Oliver comes back for dinner and spies the crayon drawing.
Oliver: "Hey!  That's not what I asked you to draw!"
Uncle B: "Yeah, it is.  What did you ask me to draw?"
Oliver: "A shark eating people!"
Uncle B: "That's what I drew.  Ask Uncle Q."
Oliver brings drawing to Uncle Q.
Uncle Q: "Hey, it's a shark eating people!  Hahaha!"
Even though my little art director wasn't that enthused by the completion of our collaboration, I hope O-man gives me another chance and works with me again.

And Then Mommy Took Our Crayons Away...

I was enjoying a dandy ol' time drawing with Mr. O until his mom came by and got a bit perturbed, taking our crayons away. I was merely expressing my creative expression, however my sister kept saying things like "inappropriate subject matter for a 2 year old" and "Uncle Brendan is displaying irresponsible behavior" and so on and so on. I didn't quite catch it all, to tell you the truth, and my rebuttals of exercising my inalienable first amendment right and the importance of old timey religion in the education of a young man, brimstone and the like, fell on deaf ears. However, it just goes to show that the power of mom trumps all and Uncle B is no longer allowed to participate in coloring time.
